The Hitchhiker’s Guide to Academic Publishing
Being a big fan of Douglas Adams and his historical pentalogy, I always wanted to give a talk or write an article with this title. The opportunity appeared last week following an invitation from Charlie Burlingham (@csburlingham), a PhD student in the Psychology department at NYU. Charlie found me through my articles and blog posts and sent me an email asking me to give a talk in his department to discuss some of the recent developments in scholarly publishing: preprints, open peer review, different roads to open access, funder mandates, etc. Every invitation is appreciated, but coming from a student whose only motivation is his interest in discussing and learning more about these issues that eventually shape the way we do and share research made it particularly special.
